thomas brinkmann is one of the great producers of techno music and modern dance music. he initially gained notoriety in the experimental electronic music and techno community for his full-length variations of material by wolfgang voigt under his mike ink moniker, and richie hawtin. the variations were made by playback of the original artist records on a turntable of brinkmann s design, which has two tone arms with separate outputs for left and right channels. the turntables were then pitched down from 33rpm to 27rpm and the results recorded and mixed. both voigt and hawtin were sufficiently impressed they released the results on their own labels. since then thomas brinkmann has produced some all-time classic dance tracks, many of which are collected here in what is a personal selection by thomas brinkmann himself. there are unreleased tracks, different versions, and tracks that have never been released on vinyl. a full colour 20-page book with track notes by thomas brinkmann and photos from his personal collection is included. limited edition box. highly recommended! ean4050486123461

the sound of studio one can be identified by the great singers that it cultivated along the many great songs that these singers released. but as studio 1 s dominance was slowly pulled away by the up and coming new breed of producers many of the artists would inevitably end up working for these new camps and so the songs and singers found a new audience. the reggae sound of the studio 1 would make a great combination and the man to pull this was together bunny lee.

teaming up again with the master of junglist vocals – mc fats and employing the classic soulful vibes of legend cleveland watkiss, break created a full vocal single, with both artists featuring on both sides. we are the people weaves mellow and uplifting piano chords with a strong verse from cleveland, switching to fats for his lick to cut into a heavy drop. weighty wobbling jungle subs, peppered with warm synth bass melodies carry this summery roller through, with both vocalists complimenting each others flavours stylishly. a blissed out dreamy breakdown gets you chilled for a switch back to the second drop bassline, going low and long with the subs. a chilled summery feel good vibe, with some backbone!
midnite classic, rolling in a heavy reggae skank loop for the intro sets a great backdrop for cleveland’s very catchy lyrics and melody. switching to fats for a minimal dnb build up and dropping with his renowned vocal style cutting over the bassline on a junglist style drop. a classic old skool feeling but still with a fresh modern edge, this is an addictive club tune, capturing raw vibes that are always needed in the dance.

the seventh ep from the untold stories, is a collaborative project, beats and keys. the beats coming from nektar agu, and the piano from matias zurita, aka cossmos. both artists from buenos aires, and they obviously found a great harmony for this project, because the result is very nice indeed. a1 is a special work, entitled seiya . it s an enlivening track of distinct attitude, the flow is strong, the percussion powerful, and combined dextrously with the beautiful keys from cossmos. the effect is very inspiring, very mental - deep and evocative, and very enjoyable. this epic work then get s a remix by archipel label boss pheek, who keeps all that made the original magical, and crafts a refined 8 min remix, if you liked the first track then this will be a very awesome further development. the ep is then concluded by a 7 min work by nektar agu and cosmos, this time a more upbeat and trippy affair, again it s beats and keys in a cool harmony, again done with considerable skill, and is a nice end to a fine record.

patrick weblin gives us this very special ep. 2 original tracks named after his 2 sons, so a lot of time and heart has gone into making this ep with a superb remix from iuly.b. “tadhg’s groove” give us solid house drums, percs and hats but its the pads and bassline that gives it the movement throughout the track, taking you to another level of space and conscious. iuly.b’s remix is down right tasty. it takes you on a little trip and makes you loose track of time all while grooving to this great remix. “ollie’s groove” is something a bit special, big 909 kick combined with 808 tops but this time some melodic synths add a very soulful and elegant sound.

helder russo is the youngest of eleven, raised in lisbon in a family from the island of santiago, cabo verde. he s a prolific music producer with a couple of heavy releases on groovement recordings and as half of gatupreto on tink!. russo s music is thought out and solid, his reference list is long and diverse, citing rhythm & sound in the same context as miles davis, sade, the late great mj, boo williams, carl craig or jay dilla. the result is a soundtrack composed with care and attention, detailed and rich though still powerful and present.

disco stomper with diva vocals another extremely rare underground record on p&p. this time however and quite shockingly not a patrick adams or a greg carmichael production. nonetheless ôainÆt it timeö is a massive disco cut written, arranged and produced by arthur manning and p. j. wyatt paired with great vocals by soul, disco and gospel vocalist gwendolyn dennison better known for her stage name as queen yahna. queen yahna s career has seen her perform on broadway as maria in the hit musical, -porgy & bess- and the national company of -the wiz- as -evillene-. based in berlin, germany, queen yahna has had a successful career outside theater as well, cutting a few dance records over the year

we are happy to welcome this talented artist from bucharest. vincentiulian is no stranger in the scene and his great releases on barac’s label and other romanian imprints has got him a pretty good recognition in our music scene. this ep is a 2 tracker and a remix from the head of the label nima gorji.

the tenth output of invite’s choice records is another hard hitting banger made by border one.
drumrim’s straightforward four to the floor kick is accompanied by a hard hitting bass and a repetitive leadsound that evolves throughout the track. the overdriven hihats and rides combine well with the panicky sound. diffuse goes along with the flow set by the a1 track, yet has a bit more percussive feel to it due to the toms added.
hatchet on the b-side provides an aggressive kick and percussive elements. the sound evolves around one overdriven synth sound that drains you in to the track. perfect for fast transitions while mixing. copylust ends the ep a bit slower bpm wise, but emits the same energy as the previous tracks. straight-forward, hypnotising, hard hitting contemporary techno.

coyu is working on his highly anticipated debut album it will explain a story, my story attests the big cat. it s the first chapter of this story and the debut single of the album is 1+1, a track made in collaborating with thomas gandey a perfect summer track, powerful but addictive and catchy. in coyu s own words 1+1 it s me and my girlfriend, me and my mother, me and my team, suara and me, my music and me, the world and me. because without the people you love and all that you love you are nothing. 1 + 1 is a claim to love and be loved, to embrace sensibilities, to create synergies and teamwork. but also, it is the communion of my two great passions: techno and house music. nine minutes of linear and heavy groove that melts with the notes of an emotional piano. it s a track that i m deeply proud of, i am pretty sure that in 10 years from now i will continue to enjoy it like i did the first day it was finished and after a year and a half i can now say that it is just as much mine as it is yours. because you and me are also 1+1. for the remixes probably we have the greatest pack ever on the label: gerd janson delivered an amazing interpretation of the track: truncate takes the track down to raw techno, less is more. last but not least we have the introspective trip of cosmin trg which completes one of the releases of the year on the kitties labe

2017 altenative label art ... after his critically acclaimed frustrated funk releases >alsoran< and >vox automaton< in 2007, gerard hanson returns to la familia frustrada to drop yet another selection of his finest material. again 2 releases. this time starting with harbour city sorrow followed later with a 12 inch on frustrated funk. >lunar ruins< shows his deeper side again with skillfully crafted tracks loaded with fragile moments of elegance and beauty. the title track is already known from his amazing live sets, and was recorded around the same period as >alsoran<. typical e.r.p. basslines combined with tear jerkin strings. with >into the distance< gerard shows his love for the early dmay sound and programming style. the final track >mimosa canopy< is an experimental minimalistic track with warm pads, clean production and lots of tweaking freakyness. great release again from our humble texan friend.

u-roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed the originator for good reason. bursting onto the jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called ôtoasting,ö which in addition to branching out jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an american genre in its infancy: rapping. on dread in a babylon, his third full-length, he stretches out over traditional roots grooves provided by the soul syndicate and skin, flesh & bones bands, riffing on topics including love (ôrunaway girl,ö a 1975 single released in the uk on virgin records), the bible (ôthe great psalmsö), walking the straight and narrow (ôlisten to the teacherö), and even his take on governmental policy goals (ôchalice in the palaceö). the album finishes with an instrumental version of bob marley & the wailersÆ ôtrench town rock,ö for good measure. u-royÆs style and charisma are always on display, and û as with all of his classic records û the groove rules all. presented on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, itÆs the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in jamaican musical history.

vinyl only – after four first releases by myself, i invited three of my favorite producers and friends to take part in the first various artist ep of the label called retro future. a1 is provided by stevn.aint.leavn from the beste modus and certain circles camps. i ve been following stefan closely since the release of his big track -precious- and he is now making waves everywhere. for this record he provides -motion- a smashing house track that enlightened every dance floor i dropped it on. then comes alix alvarez, a real underground hero of the new york scene. he s been releasing tunes since more than 15 years, collaborating with mr v and franck roger. alix delivers the tune -no chaser-, a stripped back, deep and driving number that he is known for. the kind of track that made his reputation. on the other side of the record you ll find paolo rocco. he is the man of the moment, fresh from great releases on taverna tracks, rutilance or courtesy of balance to name a few. here we have -7284-, it has been a true favorite of mine over the last months. finally i round up the ep with -belle maison- a new jam i recorded a few months ago featuring an engaging french speech, mpc beats and fb-01 synths. welcome to retro future chapter one.

stereociti, revered japanese house producer, with 2 acclaimed albums on mojuba joins groovement, increasing the nipon family on the label. reflexion ep is a very complete release, showcasing stereociti’s amazing composition skills. “eu lembro” is a super irresistible intergalactic house journey and “wee hours”, a dubby excursion that never ceases to grow til the groove comes in. title track “reflexions” is a very elegant and hypnotic house cut that will make you dream about the perfect party. and to close in a perfect mood, “canc&#807,,,o&#771,,,es do vento sul” - a more broken tune - loops the journey into pure happiness and joy. a great record to listen or dance to.

leonard cohen is indubitably one of the most legendary and successful singer-songwriters from the 60s. however, his label at first refused to release “various positions”, his seventh studio album, saying “look, leonard, we know you are great, but we dont know if you are any good.”
the success of the album proved them wrong, giving us one of his most beloved and arguably his most covered song “hallelujah”, along other gems such as “heart with no companion” and the gainsbourg-esque “dance me to the end of love”.
this is a nice addition to the rest of cohens releases on music on vinyl. pressing on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

in the midst of the storm brings together two exceptional talents and two generations of reggae musicians. jah9s previous release 9 was critically heralded as one of the most re-freshing reggae albums of 2016. and now, fans will get the fully de-constructed, dubwise version of the album with nine newly recorded dub sessions from the legendary dub master, mad professor. he s renown for hundreds of productions with the who s who of jamaican veteran artist like i.e. lee perry, u-roy, the congos, horace andy, and did also great dub re-mixes for massive attack, sade, depeche mode, grace jones and many more. this release marks the first mad professor title with vp records as well as the first commercial recording of mad professor and jah9 together. the press and media coverage will include interviews with mad professor and jah9. the great original cover illustration is by artist richard nattoo!

...and in the end, not a great deal is known about the spanish duo futuro. the saga begins with the discovery of a cache of test pressings deep within the shelves of a very dusty record shop near the plaza del toros de valencia. as is the case with these things there was no promo sheet or any other information outside of three clues etched into the run-out groove: futuro, jollyman, mcmlxxxvii. through deduction and reasoning it was soon realised that jollyman was a short lived italian record label that closed it s doors in 1987. there were rumours for a while that jollyman was a mafia wedding gift to a music enthused female family member, but as the journey continued it became slightly more likely that this was a tax write-off for it s owners, as the label itself was never very successful, and was more likely an afterthought rather than a full on passion project. that is not to say that there were not gems hidden within it s small catalogue, most notably from noted library musician, composer and arranger alessandro signoretti, without whose help this release would not be presently in front of you. alessandro s assistance led us to the infamous hafenklang studio in hamburg, germany. the very same studio used by boytronic to record their classic lp the continental (some of the same dx presets can easily be heard on both albums) and despite the insane amounts of musicians that have passed through those doors the owner clearly remembered the duo and finally the mysterious futuro had names: javier c rayón and raúl láynez.
